Most counters start with Square Register — or Square Stand if you already use an iPad — plus a receipt printer. Busy shops add Square Handheld to take orders down the line, and carts or pop-ups can use Square Reader or Tap to Pay on a phone. Square Kiosk adds self-ordering, but it needs a paid Square plan and a per-device add-on.
Yes. Square shows tip options on the customer's screen — Square's smart suggestions or three presets you choose — and can allow a custom amount. On a paid plan, tip pooling can split card tips among the staff on shift.
Yes. Square Online Ordering gives you a commission-free ordering page with prep times, scheduled pickup windows and a curbside option. Square also connects to DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub, and those orders land in the same order queue.
Square Loyalty lets customers earn points by visit, by amount spent or on specific items, and join with their phone number at checkout. Square includes it with Square Plus and Premium.
Square hardware can take card payments offline and process them when you reconnect; Square recommends reconnecting within 24 hours. You're responsible for any offline payment that's later declined or disputed, and some payment types — including Tap to Pay, gift cards and Cash App Pay — don't work offline.
Square sets its own pricing.
